‘Dialogue for Six Strings’

‘Dialogue for Six Strings’ is the Restless Dance Theatre dancers’ response and interpretation to the Geomungo duet piece, ‘Lingering Sound of Koguryeo’, performed by Sun-wha Lee and Sook Moon at Seoul National University Korean Music Department after a 2-day workshop.

This collaboration between artists from South Korea and Adelaide is a shared response to the emotions of loss, despair and bewilderment experienced by so many in the COVID-19 world. With their powerful movements and sounds as the purest dialogue, this collaboration demonstrates that we are still connected to each other and that, with our shared abilities, ‘we will rise again together’.

Having international audiences via the online platform was an interesting experience for us because we had to prepare English-Korean interpreters as well as live captions for those who have hearing impairment. It was the first time to try involve audiences with and without disability and multiple language, including sign language. We provided both signing interpreters and live-captions for Korean audience with hearing impairment to follow up the announcement and Q & A time. The most impressive thing was that music and performing images became another language for all of us to connect together via online regardless disability, cultural and language differences.
